Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller, alongside several colleagues from both parties, has introduced the U.S. Trade Leadership in the Indo-Pacific Act (USTLIPA) to address the growing economic influence of China in the region. The bill aims to reassert Congress’s authority over trade and counter China's trade agendas that hinder U.S. competitiveness.

Miller emphasized the necessity of strong trade relationships in the Indo-Pacific, pointing out the gaps left by the Biden Administration's inaction that the Chinese Communist Party is exploiting. She stated, "Now more than ever, it is imperative that the United States has strong trade relationships in the Indo-Pacific."

Congressman Jimmy Panetta highlighted the need for the U.S. to enhance its role in trade relations with the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing the establishment of an independent trade commission to develop a comprehensive strategy to promote U.S. innovation and counter aggressive trade policies.

Congressman Adrian Smith raised concerns about the current administration's inaction leading to a loss of ground in global markets for American producers. He stressed the importance of not missing crucial opportunities to support American workers, benefit consumers, and strengthen relationships with allies.

Congressman Don Beyer underscored the significance of the Indo-Pacific region for the U.S. economy, emphasizing the need for active participation in shaping the rules governing trade in the region.

Congressman Darin LaHood emphasized the importance of not relinquishing the U.S.'s lead on trade in the Indo-Pacific, especially in the face of China's economic and military influence. He highlighted the act's role in reaffirming U.S. economic leadership in the region for the benefit of farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Lastly, Congressman Ami Bera stressed the crucial nature of the Indo-Pacific region for American prosperity and security. He emphasized the need for the U.S. to reassert leadership to ensure that trade rules in the Indo-Pacific align with American values.

The bipartisan U.S. Trade Leadership in the Indo-Pacific Act aims to address these concerns and deliver recommendations on how Congress can compete in the region to achieve U.S. objectives and ensure measurable outcomes.
