Today, the Congressional Energy Export Caucus Co-Chairs Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV), Jodey Arrington (R-TX), and Henry Cuellar (D-TX) issued a statement in response to a report from the Department of Energy on the impacts of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). The report addresses both environmental and economic aspects.
The co-chairs stated, “LNG is a key part of unleashing American energy dominance, and by keeping this pause in place the Biden administration has held the United States back from reaching our full potential. This is not a partisan issue; every American has experienced the financial burden because of this policy. The reality is LNG is crucial in emboldening American energy production. When the U.S. is energy dominant, we have the ability to export to our allies which elevates our global influence while lowering costs for Americans. LNG production will continue to be a cornerstone for energy exports, and we look forward to working with the incoming Administration to ensure that the U.S. energy supply is abundant to bring down energy costs and support our allies.”
A recent study by S&P Global highlighted that the U.S. LNG industry plays an essential role in maintaining low living costs while providing international energy supplies. It suggests that LNG will significantly contribute to growing both the U.S. economy and its overall energy supply.
In August 2024, members of the Energy Export Caucus sent a bipartisan letter urging approval for LNG export permits from President Biden’s administration. Earlier in February 2024, they expressed concerns about plans to limit these exports through another letter addressed directly to President Biden.
