Cost of college went up for resident students at New River Community and Technical College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1 percent for 2018-19 at New River Community and Technical College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

West Virginia residents paid $4,286 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $320 more than the $3,966 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 61 percent more than residents this year, or $6,900. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 42.7 percent from $4,834 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are West Virginia residents.

Data shows 90 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 191 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1 million and 69 students took out student loans totaling more than $265,488.

Including all undergraduates (1,169), 799 students used grants or scholarships totaling $4.8 million, and 259 students took out $998,446 in federal student loans.
