Cost of college went up for all students at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology

In-state tuition and fees rose 7.2 percent for 2018-19 at the West Virginia University Institute of Technology, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

West Virginia residents paid $7,464 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $504 more than the $6,960 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 149.8 percent more than residents this year, or $18,648. Their price tag grew 6.3 percent from $17,544 in 2017-18.

About 87 percent of the school's undergraduate population are West Virginia residents. About 10 percent are residents of other states and 3 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 94 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 287 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.4 million and 169 students took out student loans totaling more than $1 million.

Including all undergraduates (1,755), 975 students used grants or scholarships totaling $8.2 million, and 661 students took out $4.1 million in federal student loans.
