Super Smash team earns playoff bid, shot at payback against Keiser.

The WVU Tech Super Smash Brothers Ultimate team has qualified for the NACE (National Association of Collegiate Esports) StarLeague playoffs after completing the fall regular season with a record of 5-2.

The veteran Golden Bears squad of Simplicity (Konnor Pack, Sr.), Inc. (Hayden Mathers, Sr.), cyvet (Christopher Grassi, Sr.), Goemon (Elijah Brown, Soph.) and Frickroll (Trenton Smith, Soph.) will meet Keiser University in the first round, a rematch of a game on October 13 where they lost to the Seahawks 2-0.

The matchup offers a chance at revenge for the Golden Bear smashers. In that week five game, Keiser defeated WVU Tech 2-0 (NACE matches are played in a 4v4, 12-stock crew battle format, best of three series) in a game that was broadcast via Twitch on NACE's national broadcast channel. In game one the Golden Bears played fairly well, losing a competitive game 4-0. In the second game the wheels came off, with WVU Tech dropping that game by an uncharacteristic 10-0 score.

The winner will advance to face Old Dominion University, who won the division with 6-1 record that earned them a round one bye. They also handed WVU Tech their second loss of the fall season in a week six match back on October 18.

The match takes place Thursday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the WVU Tech Esports lab and will be broadcast via the Golden Bears' Twitch channel.
