WASHINGTON, D.C. – During a Ways and Means Committee hearing, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) questioned witnesses on the U.S. tax code subsidizing green corporate handouts and the Chinese Communist Party. Congresswoman Miller highlighted the importance of producing American made energy and terminating U.S. reliance on Chinese manufacturing products.

Congresswoman Miller started her questioning by asking Mr. Turner on how the Inflation Reduction Act creates incentives for unreliable electricity sources and the impact it plays on our rural communities.

“Most wind and solar products are not made in the United States, while our traditional energy is sourced from states like [West Virginia]. What will the impact be on rural communities if these credits are not repealed?” asked Congresswoman Miller.

“These jobs will continue to move overseas. We are still producing more coal than ever before. Estimates for coal production and consumption are continuing to go higher. But America and West Virginia’s share of that pie is getting smaller. These tax credits will go to companies that just produce coal in India, in China, and in Malaysia. So, my question is, if we still need coal, - we’re admitting we need coal - solar panels are made with coal, all these wind turbines are made with coal, EV’s require coal. We need coal, why can’t it be American coal? Why is it green to send the coal jobs to a foreign country and plunge communities like in West Virginia into poverty, claiming that somehow, we’re protecting the environment. It makes no sense. Not only West Virginia environmental standards are far superior to anything you will see in south-east Asia, but the jobs and the tax revenue stay in your community,” said Mr. Turner.

Congresswoman Miller concluded her questioning by asking Mr. Horn what are some national security risks which result from partnering with CCP companies and relying on China for EV batteries and critical minerals.

“Can you please detail the national security risks of these types of partnerships with CCP companies, as well as the broader risks that come from continuing U.S. reliance on China for our EV batteries and critical minerals?” asked Congresswoman Miller.

“I cannot overstate the complexity and the ability to work around us that the Communist Chinese Party has. They will continue to exploit every loophole. When they see an opportunity to use a trojan horse approach to get a Chinese state subsidized company in partnered with an American company, is nothing short of an infection by a foreign body,” said Mr. Horn.
