On April 24, 2023, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) spoke at the grand opening of West Virginia’s first methanol production plant, Liberty One under U.S. Methanol in Charleston, West Virginia.
“Today was a special day for my district and our state, as the first methanol production plant was established in West Virginia,” said Congresswoman Miller. “ I am honored to have Liberty One join the West Virginia family. Liberty One is a great investment in our gas and oil industry, creates over 300 new jobs for our community, increases manufacturing capabilities in the United States, and provides economic growth to our wild and wonderful state. I am excited to see the success of this company as they produce and deliver methanol all across our nation.”
Joining Congresswoman Miller at the event were Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), U.S. Methanol CEO, Mike Walsh, and KKCG CFO, Katarina Kohlmayer.
Background:
- Liberty One is owned by U.S. Methanol, which was founded in 2016. Liberty One is relocating a plant from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, to West Virginia.
- U.S. Methanol is planning to supply methanol to its customers mostly by barge, rail, and truck. The Liberty One plant has direct access to barge shipping lanes near Charleston, West Virginia. A network of river terminals links Liberty One to ports on the Great Lakes, Atlantic Ocean, and the Gulf of Mexico.
- Liberty One will be a major regional manufacturer benefiting from the abundance of gas in the Marcellus and Utica shale fields. The low cost of producing natural gas and related byproducts is expected to expand the chemical industry with close proximity to Liberty One.
- Approximately 300 temporary construction jobs have been created to construct the plant.
