On access to telehealth in rural America:
"If COVID-19 taught us anything, it is how critical telehealth is for patients in rural America for them to receive care. Especially for patients like in my hometown and my state of West Virginia, where it can take at least 5 hours to get to a hospital.
Because of our mountainous terrain, it became not a silver lining, but a glaring need in our health care.
A recent study showed that 91% of patients nationwide reported that telehealth made it easier to get the care that they needed. We must ensure that this important flexibility is readily available to patients in the future, regardless of whether there’s a pandemic or not.
That’s why I am a co-sponsor of this bill, the Telehealth Expansion Act, which will make it easier for patients and employees to access telehealth when using a high-deductible health plan.
I applaud Representatives Michelle Steel (R-CA), Susie Lee (D-NV), Adrian Smith (R-NE), and Brad Schneider (D-IL) for introducing this commonsense legislation, and I look forward to seeing it reported favorably out of committee today."
