Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) has spoken at a Ways and Means Committee markup of the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act. This bill aims to provide critical maternal services to ensure the health of both the mother and unborn child. Additionally, it seeks to prevent the Department of Health and Human Services from imposing restrictions on states' use of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds for Pregnancy Resource Centers.

In her speech, Congresswoman Miller highlighted her personal connection to the issue, stating, "As a woman, mother, and grandmother, it was deeply fulfilling to watch my children and grandchildren grow up healthy and happy. I am in awe of the miracle of conception and passionate about the sanctity of life. It is our role to support women and families as they raise the next generation."

Miller emphasized the importance of Pregnancy Resource Centers in providing the necessary support and services for women and families facing unexpected pregnancies. She shared her own experience visiting a local Pregnancy Resource Center in Huntington, West Virginia, describing the individual care they provide as "nothing short of a blessing."

Pregnancy Resource Centers offer a range of comprehensive services on a voluntary basis, ensuring that children can be cared for within their homes. These services include free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, testing for sexually transmitted infections, counseling on all options for pregnancy, parenting education, job training, diapers and baby clothes, assistance with housing and utilities, and transportation support.

The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act affirms the commitment to support women and families by providing them with the necessary resources they need. Congresswoman Miller commended Representatives Fischbach and Tenney for introducing this vital legislation and expressed her anticipation for its favorable report out of committee.

The bill's passage would be a significant step towards ensuring the well-being of pregnant and parenting women and families across the country. It recognizes the importance of accessible and comprehensive support systems for individuals facing the challenges of unexpected pregnancies.

The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act is a testament to the commitment of lawmakers to prioritize the health and well-being of mothers, unborn children, and families. It is through such legislation that society can continue to foster an environment of support and care for those in need.
