Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) expressed her gratitude for the Major Disaster Declaration granted to Boone, Calhoun, Clay, Harrison, and Kanawha Counties in West Virginia. The declaration, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will provide much-needed funding for the counties affected by heavy rains and flooding in August.

In a letter sent to President Biden and FEMA in November, Congresswoman Miller and the West Virginia delegation urged for a Major Disaster Declaration due to the extensive damages caused by the severe weather conditions. With the declaration now approved, federal funding will be allocated to help rebuild and repair the affected areas.

"I am grateful for this Major Disaster Declaration which will allocate funding for our counties affected by the storms in August, to rebuild, repair, and remain successful," said Congresswoman Miller. "This funding is critical for our communities and will provide the necessary support to my constituents as they get back on their feet. I will continue working with the federal government to make sure West Virginians have all the resources they need in the midst of natural disasters."

The Major Disaster Declaration will release federal funding that can be used to address the damages in Boone, Calhoun, Clay, Harrison, and Kanawha Counties. The funding will be distributed through the Individual Assistance (IA) program, which aims to reimburse individuals impacted by the disaster for expenses that could not be covered by insurance or other forms of assistance.

This assistance will be crucial for the affected communities as they recover from the devastating effects of the storms. The federal funding will provide much-needed support in rebuilding infrastructure, repairing homes, and ensuring that residents can regain a sense of normalcy.

With the Major Disaster Declaration in place, the federal government is demonstrating its commitment to helping West Virginians in times of crisis. The collaboration between Congresswoman Miller, the West Virginia delegation, and the federal government highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing the challenges brought forth by natural disasters.

As the recovery efforts continue, Congresswoman Miller remains dedicated to ensuring that West Virginians have access to the necessary resources and support to overcome the aftermath of the storms.
