Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Carol Miller and Congressman Rich McCormick have come together to introduce the Protecting Resources of Taxpayers to Eliminate Childhood Transgender Surgeries (PROTECTS) Act. The purpose of this bill is to prevent federal funding from being used to finance gender transition procedures on minors.
Congresswoman Miller expressed her belief that all children are created in the image of God and changing their gender disregards the blessing bestowed upon them. She stated, "Gender transition procedures on minors are traumatic, experimental practices that harm the wellbeing of children before they’re fully developed." Miller believes that the PROTECTS Act will not only cease the use of taxpayer money for gender transition procedures but also protect the nation's minors from these potentially dangerous practices.
Congressman McCormick echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the majority of Americans agree that the federal government should not be funding sex change procedures for minors. He argued that children lack the cognitive development necessary to make life-altering decisions and the PROTECTS Act is a crucial step in addressing this fundamental issue.
The PROTECTS Act has garnered support from various representatives, including Andy Biggs, Lauren Boebert, Andrew Clyde, Jeff Duncan, Tony Gonzales, Lance Gooden, Diana Harshbarger, Andy Harris, Mary Miller, Barry Moore, Troy Nehls, Ralph Norman, Andy Ogles, Bill Posey, Greg Steube, Claudia Tenney, Jeff Van Drew, Beth Van Duyne, and Randy Weber.
Several organizations have also expressed their support for the bill, including Alliance Defending Freedom, Family Research Council, Family Policy Alliance, and Frontline Policy Action.
Background information reveals that gender transition procedures can have long-term negative effects on the physical and mental health of children. Furthermore, a staggering 70% of taxpayers in the United States are opposed to gender transition procedures being performed on minors.
The introduction of the PROTECTS Act marks a significant step towards addressing the concerns surrounding gender transition procedures on minors. If passed, this bill will ensure that federal funding is not used to finance such procedures, ultimately safeguarding the wellbeing of children across the nation.
