WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) introduced a bill aimed at addressing the shortage of transportation vehicles in the private market. The legislation, known as The Small Business Transportation Investment Act, focuses on assisting small businesses that provide transportation services by creating a new program within the General Service Administration’s Fleet Vehicle Sales Program.
In a statement, Congresswoman Miller emphasized the importance of the bill, stating, "COVID-19 had a devastating impact on the passenger ground transportation industry and caused a gap in transportation services available around the country." She further highlighted how the Small Business Transportation Investment Act will support local transportation companies, preserve jobs, and enhance mobility for the public.
Under this proposed legislation, the General Service Administration (GSA) will be required to allocate half of the annual inventory of government vehicles it auctions to small businesses. By selling used vehicles from the government’s fleet to small businesses at cost, this initiative aims to bolster the success of local companies nationwide.
The introduction of The Small Business Transportation Investment Act signifies a proactive step towards mitigating the challenges faced by small transportation businesses and ensuring their sustainability in the competitive market.
