Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) celebrated West Virginia Day at the state capitol, toured the campus of a family-owned salt-making business, and visited Metro 911 of Kanawha County.
Congresswoman Miller visited the state capitol to share remarks on the significance of West Virginia Day on its 161st anniversary and highlight four of eight new historical murals that have been added to the rotunda.
“Today marks the 161st anniversary of the great state of West Virginia. I am grateful to have joined Governor Jim Justice, Secretary Randall Reid-Smith, and others to celebrate such a special day. I enjoyed seeing the first four of eight murals, which represent historical events in our state, which have now been installed in the capitol’s rotunda. Thanks to the Department of Arts, West Virginians and anyone who visits our state capitol will be able to see this beautiful artwork and reflect on its rich history," said Congresswoman Miller.
Congresswoman Miller toured J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works, a family-owned salt-making business, to see the campus and discuss past and current company operations.
“I had a lovely time touring J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works. This small business is run by a 7th generation salt-making family who produces the seasoning on their 200-year-old farm right here in West Virginia. As a small business owner and farmer, I understand the long hours, the cost, and the passion that goes into running a business to be successful and see desired results. I am confident their business will continue to prosper,” said Congresswoman Miller.
Congresswoman Miller later visited Metro 911 of Kanawha County to see the facilities and meet with the center’s employees.
“I am so thankful for Metro 911. They help keep West Virginians in the Kanawha community safe by responding to calls and texts of emergencies and dispatching police, firefighters, and Emergency Medical Services. It’s because of their work many lives have been saved. Their service contributes to protecting individuals and upholding law and order,” said Congresswoman Miller.
