Washington D.C. - Congresswoman Carol Miller of West Virginia recently visited Meeks Mountain Trails to discuss economic updates and address concerns regarding a proposal from American Electric Power (AEP). The Congresswoman also hosted a flag presentation ceremony in honor of the late West Virginia Senator Bob Ashley.
During her visit, Congresswoman Miller met with board members of Meeks Mountain Trails to tour the area and discuss the impact of the trail system on the state's economy. They also addressed AEP's plans to install power lines through the trails. "The Meeks Mountain Trails system has done a wonderful job at providing economic growth and promoting healthy lifestyles by building and sustaining more than 30 miles of trails for the Hurricane community," said Congresswoman Miller. She acknowledged concerns about AEP's plans and stated that her team is in communication with the company to find a suitable solution for the community.
Following her visit to the trails, Congresswoman Miller went to the West Virginia State Capitol, where she spoke about Senator Bob Ashley's contributions and presented his family with a flag in recognition of his service. "It was an honor to host a flag ceremony in memory of Senator Bob Ashley," she said. The flag had been flown over the United States Capitol on July 4th, which would have marked Senator Ashley's 71st birthday.
