Rep. Miller Announces Substance Use Prevention Awards for Cabell, Fayette, and Kanawha Counties

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Carol Miller (R-WV) announced a Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program Continuation Award from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) for substance use prevention coalitions in Cabell, Fayette, and Kanawha counties in West Virginia. DFC’s Support Program supports 587 coalitions across the United States with total funding of $73 million.

“We have a substance use problem in the United States and our children are dying because of it,” said Congresswoman Miller. “It is crucial we continue investing into programs and organizations that focus on our youth and substance use prevention. With a devastating fentanyl crisis in West Virginia, I’m grateful that our state is receiving the resources our programs need to protect our children and communities.”

Background:

The DFC Support Program invests in organizations which prevent youth substance use. 

Logan County Prevention Coalitionin Huntington, Fayette Prevention Coalition in Fayetteville, and Regional Family Resource Network, Inc. in Elkview, West Virginia have each been awarded DFC Program awards. 

In 2021, there were over 100,000 overdose deaths in West Virginia. 

Congresswoman Miller previously released a statement on the passage of the HALT Fentanyl Act, which will bolster our southern border to stop the spread of illicit fentanyl in the U.S.
