Fridays in the Park, weekly summer concert series at Word Park, 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, weather-permitting. Entertainment schedule:
July 14 - Susan Ketron (Christian music - Host of Inspiration Time on WOAY)
July 21 - Chris Oxley with Beckley Art Center Students - Part of BEX Arts Week
July 28 - Dance Day: 11:30 am-Mercer County Commission on Aging line dancers
12:00 pm - Raleigh County Commission on Aging line dancers
12:30 pm- Just for Fun Line Dancers
Fridays in the Park continue through August.
July 14-22 - BEX Arts Week - numerous activities planned by the BEX committee for the week such as workshops, camera obscure, ghost/legends/lore and coalfield architecture tours, concerts, game show, and BEX Un-Fair. Follow BEX on Facebook for full schedule of events.
July 21 - BEX Dance & Dine in The Underground Downtown, 5:00-8:30 pm. Free to attend. Line dancing (5-6pm), Refit (6-6:30pm) & square dancing (7-8:30 pm with music by Long Point String Band). Dining options available at Fruits of Labor Pizzeria on the cafe's lower level open during the evening on this Friday.
July 29 - City of Beckley & Shade Tree Summer Car & Bike Show, 4-8 pm, Downtown.
Register between 4 and 6 pm, show goes until 8 pm. $15 registration fee. Specialty trophies selected by the mayor, city departments and others, plus voting for Peoples' Choice car/truck and motorcycle. Live music: 5-6 pm - Acoustic Fusion; 6:30-7:30 pm
- Soul Train themed music by HGTA Theatre Group.
The Beckley Events committee is also working on a couple of new event ideas for August, along with planning popular annual events such as the Appalachian Festival Treet Fair (August 26), Kids Classic Festival (Sept. 4-10), and Chili Night (October 7).
